The Orrick Lady Bearcats completed their run through the Class 1, District 15 volleyball tournament Wednesday night with their second straight upset of a higher seed team. After getting past the top seed in the semifinals on Tuesday, Orrick punched its ticket to Saturday’s sectional with a three-game victory over the host, and No. 2-seeded, Wellington-Napoleon Lady Tigers.
Orrick, the No. 4 seed entering the tournament, defeated the Lady Tigers 25-22, 15-25, 25-15 Wednesday to take the title.
Orrick jumped out to a big lead in the first game, and Wellington-Napoleon grabbed an early lead in the second game as the two squads split and forced the deciding third game. The Lady Tigers took an early 6-1 lead before Orrick rallied to tie the set, 11-11. After a Lady Tiger kill attempt went into the net to give Orrick a 12-11 lead, the remainder of the set belonged to the Lady Bearcats. Wellington-Napoleon trailed 18-17 late, but could not pull any closer as Madison Endsley finished the set with a pair of kills.
