For the second year in a row, the Bell Game between Lexington and Richmond will help bring in food donations for the backpack program. The Richmond All-Sports Club, along with help from the Richmond Kiwanis Club, will be in competition with the Minuteman Boosters and the newly formed Lexington Kiwanis Club to see which team’s fans can bring in the most food items.
The items will be collected at the entrance to Spartan Stadium/Tom Adams Field before the Spartans and Minutemen take the field in the annual Bell Game Friday at 7 p.m.
Fans are asked to bring non-perishable food items, especially backpack friendly items, to the game and give them to either the Lexington or Richmond donation barrels. Spartan fans bringing four or more food items will receive a Richmond Spartans tote bag.
All food items will be used by the Richmond School District for distribution for the backpack program.
The winning booster club will receive the food drive bell trophy to keep for a year until the next Bell Game competition. Richmond won the competition last year.
Spartan fans brought 1,039 items of food, while the Lexington fans collected 976.
