For the third year in a row, the Orrick Bearcats grabbed their first victory of the fall in the regular-season finale against Wentworth Military Academy. The Orrick offense exploded for a 64-26 victory over the visiting Dragons at Simmons Field and will meet Lone Jack Thursday night in the Class 1, District 7 playoffs.

The Bearcats piled up 561 yards on the ground Friday night, while the defense kept Wentworth off the scoreboard until the fourth period. The Bearcat defenders also took the ball away 6 times – 4 fumbles and a pair of interceptions. The lone Dragon first half score came on one of the few Orrick offensive miscues of the night when a Wentworth defender scooped up a Bearcat fumble and returned it to the end zone.

Otherwise, Orrick coach Nick Chapman was pleased with how his team was able to put everything together just before districts.

“We had been gradually improving and having our young guys playing together throughout the season has allowed us to get some things going offensively,” he said. “It was great to get the win and gives our young guys something to build on and some momentum going into our game against Lone Jack this week.”
