Richmond coach Murray Dennis gave his junior varsity a chance to gain some 18-hole tournament experience Friday afternoon as the Lady Spartans traveled to Excelsior Springs to play in the Orrick Invitational.
The tournament featured a best-ball, scramble and individual score format. The Lady Spartans had four players who participated in the best-ball and scramble and finished with a 436 team score.
Paige Pierson and Taylor Rittmiller teamed up in the scramble, while Kameron Carmichael and Hunter Fickess played best ball. Dennis said his younger players performed well in the heat.
“It’s a change to go from playing 9 holes in practice to playing 18 this early in the season,” he said. “Paige and Taylor have had experience with 18 hole tournaments, but this was the first 18-hole tournament for Kameron and Hunter. All four girls played pretty well, even though I know they didn’t think they played that well.”
