The Richmond bats had trouble getting cranked up for the second game in a row. The Lady Spartans managed just 7 hits Monday in a 6-2 loss at Excelsior Springs. Richmond, now 5-6 overall, scored a run in the top of the first, but could only add one more run in its final at bat in the seventh.
The Lady Tigers jumped back on top with a pair of runs in the home half of the first, and added a run in the second and 3 more in the fifth.
Mallory Cole led off the first for Richmond and collected the first of her two singles and scored on Paige O’Doniel’s bases-loaded, one-out walk. O’Doniel and Casey Robbins started a Richmond threat in the third inning with back-to-back, two-out singles, but were left stranded. Courtney Williams led off the fourth for the Lady Spartans and reached on an error, but was left at third base.
The Lady Spartans finally broke through in the seventh with Madison Cole reaching on an error to open the inning. Elizabeth Windsor and Tatum Ramsey followed with back-to-back singles, but the Lady Spartans could not chase any more runs home.
