After losing their first MRVC East match of the season at Higginsville, the Lady Spartan tennis team has bounced back with what coach Duane Bastob called “very good team wins.”
Richmond returned to the league victory column Tuesday with a 7-2 win over Carrollton, and on Wednesday slipped past Cameron 5-4 in matches held at the Maurice Roberts Park courts. Bastob said his girls had their best match of the season Tuesday afternoon as they improved to 3-1 against league competition.
The Lady Spartans won four of the six singles matches and swept doubles play.
Once again, Richmond’s No. 1 singles player, Bailey Busse, recorded another 8-0 victory as she defeated Sierra Payne. Busse and her doubles partner, Kalynn Persell, also teamed up for an 8-0 decision over Payne and Lucie Callicotte.
Persell was an 8-4 singles winner over Callicotte, with Cora List winning at No. 3 over Shellby Persinger by an 8-5 final. Bre Miller closed out singles play at No. 6 with her 8-3 decision over Hannah Towle.
Sami Miller lost a tough No. 5 singles match when she fell 8-9 to Sydney Stanley, and Lauren Barger dropped a 1-8 match at No. 3 to Madyson Fry.
