Loyd Franklin Early, 100, of Richmond, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 with his family by his side at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Mr. Early was born Oct. 24, 1912 in Hardin, the son of Jesse Abraham and Maggie Emaline (Mason) Early. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Hileman of the Morton community, north of Hardin, Aug. 12, 1938; she preceded him in death May 22, 1988.
Mr. Early was a long time area farmer, farming mostly in the Rockingham area until moving to Richmond in 1991. He was a member of the Ray County Farm Bureau, and a member of God Squad. Loyd attended the Rockingham Church of the Brethren from birth until it closed in 2005. He became a Christian and a member at the age of 12. he was a Deacon for over 50 years. While in Richmond he attended the Richmond Christian Union Church. He was also a school bus driver for the Hardin-Central School District. Loyd enjoyed playing his harmonica and singing at local music shows.
Survivors include one son, Larry Early and his wife Lil of Richmond; one daughter, Joyce Price of Richmond; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Early and his wife Faye of Gladstone, and one sister Vera Williams of Richmond.
Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Lena (Temple) Early; infant son, Clifford; one brother Clarence Early; three sisters, Grace Miles, Ethel Hoover and Ruth Early; son-in-law, Milton Price ,grandson-in-law, Jay Biagini, and two great-grandsons, Andrew Dulaney and Lee Armenta.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Wakenda Cemetery, north of Hardin.
Memorial contribution may be made to the Richmond Christian Union Church in memory or the MO-Ark District of the Church of the Brethren in memory of Loyd.
