The Richmond Lady Spartans got a strong pitching performance from Nicole Camp to get them back on track Thursday afternoon at Lexington. The Lady Spartan junior held the Minutewomen to just one hit as Richmond left town with a 5-1 victory.
The win was Richmond’s fourth in five MRVC East contests, as the Lady Spartans also improve to 6-6 overall. Lexington drops to 2-3 in the league and 7-6 overall.
Lexington’s only run came in the bottom of the second. Camp issued one of her four walks to Skyler Wrisinger to lead off the inning. She stole second and advanced to third on a ground out before scoring a sacrifice bunt by Hayley Read.
Camp ended the game with a half dozen strikeouts and only one more Lexington runner reached second base.
Meanwhile, the Lady Spartan bats, which had been struggling the past two games, picked up the pace a bit with 8 hits.
