A rough third inning proved costly for the Richmond Lady Spartans Tuesday night at Southview Field. Higginsville scored 6 runs in the third inning on four Richmond errors and that was enough support for a 6-4 MRVC East win.

The Lady Spartans slip to 4-2 in league play, and are 6-7 in all games, while the Lady Huskers improve to 4-3 in the MRVC East and 9-7 overall.

The Lady Huskers held a 1-0 lead after two innings after getting an unearned run in the second frame. Sam Davis began the Higginsville uprising in the third with a home run over the centerfield fence, and after one out, Tori Nienhueser kept the rally going with a single, followed by four consecutive Lady Spartan errors.

Richmond scratched out a couple of runs in the fourth inning. Elizabeth Windsor reached on a one-out single and then stole second. Paige O’Doniel singled, but was later erased on a fielder’s choice. Alexis Thaxton had one of her two base hits to bring home the second run of the inning.
