Richmond junior Bailey Busse advanced to the finals of the Tiger Classic Tennis Tournament Thursday afternoon at Excelsior Springs.
For the second year in a row Busse and Chillicothe’s Sydnie Whiteside battled for the No. 1 singles title, and for the second consecutive year, it was Whiteside pulling off the victory with an 8-4 decision.
Busse opened with an 8-0 win over Sierra Payne of Carrollton, and then stopped Allison Maples of Odessa 8-2. Busse advanced to the finals with an 8-1 victory over Hanna Fowler of Platte County in the semifinals.
Kalynn Persell placed fifth for Richmond in the No. 2 singles bracket. She defeated Lucie Callicotte of Carrollton 8-3 to begin the day, but dropped a 4-8 decision to Odessa’s Maddie Ault. Persell ended pool play with an 8-4 victory over Jordan Walzer of Platte County before taking the fifth-place match from Maggie Mohn of Excelsior Springs, 8-0.
