Mary Lou “Tootsie” Silkwood, 78, of Richmond, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Mary was born April 3, 1935 in Richmond, to Willie L. and Pearl Lena (Allen) Robertson. She first married Pete Whelchel. She later married Lavell Silkwood. They both preceded her in death.
Mary was a homemaker. She had worked as a waitress at Mary’s Kitchen in Richmond for several years. She was of the Christian faith. She was a lifelong Ray County resident.
Survivors include; one grandson, Shane Barker of Camden; six great grandchildren; two step sons, Leroy and Bobby Silkwood, both of Independence; three step daughters, Laurinda Larkin and her husband, Tom of Independence, Charlene Silkwood of Independence and Dottie Silkwood and her companion, Peter of Spiro, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to both of her husbands, Mary was preceded in death by one daughter, Iona G. Barker; two brothers, Junior Robertson, Allen “Leon” Robertson; and two sisters, Marjorie Louise Zentz and Jo Ann Mattice.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Shirkey’s Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held in the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery.
