Harold Penniston, 89, of Dockery, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, with family at his bedside with Shirkey’s Hospice in Richmond.
He was born to Joseph Penniston and Cleo (Edgar) Penniston of Stet, before moving to Dockery, where he lived out most of his life.
Mr. Penniston was a retired auto worker and farmer. He was an Army AirCorp Veteran of WWII. He served as a Corporal of the 487th bomb group of the 870th Bomb Squadron Serving in Western Pacific Air Offensive against Japan and Eastern mandates from 1943 to 1945.
Survivors include his wife and sweetheart, Sadie Penniston of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Fern and Donn Young of Excelsior Springs; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Tina Penniston of Dockery, and Terry Penniston of Warsaw; two step-sons, August Mautino and his wife Anita of Richmond, and Paul Mautino and his wife Linda of Chillicothe; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by one son, Larry Penniston; three sisters, Faye Clark, Charlene Crook and Fern Penniston; and one brother, Walter Penniston.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 7 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home. Inunrment will be at the Antioch Cemetery north of Norborne, following the services. Military honors will be provided by the Ray County Veterans.
