With only a few days to prepare, it has been somewhat of a crash course for area football teams to prepare for the 2013 season. Fall practices began across the state on Aug. 12, and according the MSHSAA rules, the first full-pad contact was not allowed until last Saturday.
Friday night, the area schools will be able to get a better idea of how they stand against competition, as jamborees will be held across the state with an eye on next week’s season openers.
The Richmond Spartans will once again face Smithville, Chillicothe and Knob Noster as they travel to Knob Noster for a jamboree that will kick off at 6 p.m. Each team will get 12 plays on offense in each rotation. The Spartans will open with Smithville, which should be a good test against a veteran Warrior squad. In the second session, the Richmond junior varsity will take the field against the Knob Noster JV. In the final session, the Spartans and Chillicothe Hornets will face each other.
Coach Rob Bowers’ Spartans are on the road for the first two weeks starting with a visit to O’Hara and Lawson before hosting Excelsior Springs Sept. 13.
