Once again, members of the Spartan Touchdown Club were delighted with the results of the third annual golf tournament held June 8 at the Shirkey Golf Course. A record number of teams entered in the four-person scramble, which when combined with the results of a post-tournament auction resulted in the TD Club’s best tournament in three years.
There were 32 teams entered in this year’s event that was played under sunny skies and comfortably warm temperatures. Touchdown Club president Grant Akers was pleased with the turnout.
“This is the best tournament we’ve had in the three years since we took over,” he said. “There are so many people to thank for helping us make this a success – the area businesses that helped by sponsoring holes, or teams, or both and of course, thanks to all the golfers who show up.”
Akers noted that this year’s entries featured several RHS alumni and former football players who made their way back to Richmond to play in the tournament.
“It seems we have more alumni play every year,” he added.
