Wilbur J. Fletcher went to be with the Lord Dec. 25, 2012 in Arlington, Texas.
He started his life journey Feb. 5, 1921 in Orrick. He joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation from Orrick High School and made it a career. He was on the U.S.S. Wasp when it was sunk during WWII. While on survivor leave he met the love of his life, Marie James Fletcher and they were married for 69 years. After WWII Wilbur went to flight school and became a Navy pilot. Wilbur and Marie and their two sons, Matt and Mike, enjoyed numerous naval assignments throughout the world. He moved back to Orrick in 1975 and led a busy retirement life until 2003 when he moved to Texas to be with family.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, two sons: Matt and wife Dee, and Mike and wife, Gayla. Also, one grandson Adam Fletcher and wife, Michelle and four granddaughters: Sandy Blake and husband, Mitch, Kris Fletcher, Janet Amor, and Angela White and husband, Jeff, as well as eight great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Paul Fletcher of Anchorage, Alaska.
A memorial graveside service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 3 p.m. at South Point Cemetery in Orrick. Military honors will be provided by the Ray County Veterans.
