Spartans denied their fourth consecutive conference meet crown

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

The Spartans’ run of three consecutive MRVC East track championships was stopped short by one point Tuesday at the conference meet held at Holden. Richmond was denied a fourth straight title by Higginsville, the runner-up the past two years, as the Huskers ended the day with 112 points.

Lexington finished third in a tightly-bunched top four, followed by the host Eagles with 103. Knob Noster placed fifth with 67 points, and Carrollton picked up 55 points.

Richmond picked up three individual first-place finishes, in addition to winning a pair of relays. Tevin Robinson won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.64 seconds, while teammate Lendarrius Pritchett grabbed fourth in 12.35. Robinson also had a third-place finish in the 200 in 24.58, with Pritchett fourth in 25.52. Pritchett won the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet, 1 inch, and Seth Gant had the third-place leap of 38-7 ¾. Gant also placed third in the long jump with 18-7 ½, with Robinson turning in the fifth-place distance of 18-5.

Matt Tweedie turned in a pair of third-place performances. He ran the 1,600 in 4:53.01, and the 800 in 2:09.96, with fellow Spartan Dakota Boss taking fifth with a time of 2:16.96. Tweedie added a sixth-place finish in the 3,200 with 12:17.55. Seth Plymell took fourth for Richmond in the discus with a toss of 105-3.
