It was a tough afternoon for the Richmond High School track teams at the Class 3, District 8 meet held at Tiger Stadium in Excelsior Springs.

Richmond will be in only two events in Saturday’s sectional meet at Blue Springs High School, while the season is over for the remainder of the Spartans and Lady Spartans.

Lendarrius Pritchett will be the lone Spartan moving on to this weekend’s competition. Pritchett placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 41 feet, 2 ¼ inches. The top four in each event qualify for the sectionals. Peyton Mizera of Maryville took first place with a leap of 45-8, followed by Dominick Turner of Excelsior Springs with 42-3 and Nick Roofener of Liberty North with 41-6 ¾.

Representing the Lady Spartans at sectional Saturday will be the 4 x 800 relay team of Savannah Hamilton, Emma Long, Elizabeth Windsor and Mary Beth Bailey. They combined for a time of 10 minutes, 28.47 seconds and a third-place finish. Smithville took first place with 9:58.12, while Liberty North was the runner-up with 10:03.38. Lawson was the final qualifier in the event with a fourth-place time of 10:29.7.

The Spartans 4 x 400 relay team fell one place shy of advancing. The squad of Seth Gant, Daymean Probst, Taylor Teegarden and Matt Tweedie turned in a fifth-place time of 3:38.04, with Trenton taking the final spot in 3:36.07.

Richmond had a few other near misses for the afternoon. Tevin Robinson made the finals of the 100-meter dash. After a qualifying time of 11.39, the senior finished fifth in the finals with a time of 11.27, with Liberty North’s Richard Richardson finishing just .05 seconds ahead to take fourth. Robinson also finished 11th in the long jump with a leap of 19-6 ¾.
