Two Bearcats will be heading back to the sectional golf tournament and will be taking one more with them after getting through Tuesday’s Class 1, District 7 tournament at Shirkey Golf Course.

Senior Austin Meyer and junior Mason Karnes return to the sectional tournament Monday at Fairview Golf Course in St. Joseph, while Jake Jennings, a junior, makes his first sectional appearance.

Meyer became Orrick’s first district medalist as he shot an 86 on the par-71 Shirkey course.

“He has had a great senior year, and we are excited to see how he does at sectionals and hopefully state,” Bearcat Coach Mitch Comstock said.

However, Comstock was disappointed his entire team did not advance. The Bearcats shot a team total 405 which tied Mid Buchanan for second place and the final team spot for next week’s tournament. The Dragons advanced based on the tiebreaker using the No. 5 player’s score. Simon Gach, the No. 5 golfer for Mid Buchanan shot 107, while Cody Sparks carded a 131 for Orrick.
