After missing out on a state golf appearance last year, Orrick senior Austin Meyer will return for the third time when the Class 1 tournament begins Monday.
Meyer, along with junior Mason Karnes, qualified for the state tournament that will be played Monday and Tuesday at Silo Ridge Golf Course in Bolivar.
Meyer, who qualified for state as a freshman and sophomore, had the low Orrick round at the Class 1 sectional Monday at Fairview Golf Course in St. Joseph.
Meyer carded an 87 on the par-72 course, which put him in a three-way tie for seventh along with Cole Gage of Stanberry and Caden Wilson of Albany.
The top two teams and the low 12 scores not on those teams advance to the state tournament.
Karnes was in a group of four golfers to shoot a 92, which was the cut line for advancing. Karnes tied for 14th spot with Kyle Osborn of St. Mary’s, Kevin Paul of Albany and Bradley Rhoads of Gallatin.
However, junior Bearcat Jacob Jennings fell one shot short of continuing his season when he carded a 93. Orrick Coach Mitch Comstock said all three of his Bearcats played well and he was disappointed that all three golfers could not move on.
