Mabel G. Reeves, 92, of Richmond, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Shirkey Nursing Home in Richmond.
Mabel was born April 10, 1921 in Strasburg, N.D. to Cornilus and Gertrude (Van Schaur) Van Soest. She married Wilbur Lewis Reeves of Stet, July 3, 1939; he preceded her in death Sept. 25, 2010.
Mabel worked at Dunhill shirt factory in Lexington, Hogan’s Dairy Queen in Norborne, and was an assembly worker for Banquet Foods before retiring in in 1986. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Mabel had lived in the Hardin and Stet areas most of her life.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary L. and Gloria Reeves of Kearney, and Lowell D. and Emelda Reeves of Dickson, Tenn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Velda and Richard Conard of Kearney; one brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Nada Van Soest of Logansport, Ind.; three sisters, Lealla Pulliam of Richmond, Gertrude Little of Monticello, Ind. and Mildred Taylor of Royal Center, Ind.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and three step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mabel was preceded in death by a twin brother and sister, who died in infancy; two brothers, Maurice Van Soest and Clarence Van Soest; and four sisters, Jeanetta Baurele, Verna Van Soest, Anna Wilcox and Cornila Van Soest.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 9, at 11 a.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation was held Thursday, May 9, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial in the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery.
