The top of the MRVC East girls track standings hasn’t changed much over the past five years. The Higginsville Lady Huskers claimed their fifth consecutive conference meet championship Tuesday at Holden. For the past four years, the Richmond Lady Spartans have been right behind Higginsville.
The Lady Huskers ended Tuesday’s conference meet with 182 points, while Richmond finished with 151. Knob Noster was a distant third with 77 points, followed by Holden with 62; Carrollton with 46; and Lexington with 33.
The Lady Spartans had eight first-place showings and nearly swept the relays.
Savannah Hamilton and Mary Beth Bailey picked up two first-place finishes apiece. Hamilton won another 800-meter race with a time of 2:36.12 to edge teammate Elizabeth Windsor’s second-place time of 2:40.9. Hamilton also crossed the line first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.99. Bailey claimed the distance races for Richmond by winning the 1,600 with a time of 5:53.07, and the 3,200 with 13:02.84. Emma Long placed third for the Lady Spartans in both events with a time of 6:15.92 in the 1,600 and 14:32.19 in the 3,200. She also took fourth place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 57.37.
