Jerry N. Liggett, 74, of Richmond, died Friday, May 24, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Jerry was born Jan. 22, 1939 in Kansas City, Mo. to Everett Neil and Lavina Armentha (Johnston) Liggett. He married Nellie Sue Ryan of Kansas City, Mo. Jan. 23, 1960; she survives of the home.
Jerry was a combine assembler at the Allis Chalmers Plant in Independence, MO for 34 years and retired in 1973. He lived in Kansas City and Independence before retiring to Richmond. He was an active member in the First Church of God where he served as Youth Director and Deacon. He and his wife helped raised 29 foster children over the years.
Additional survivors include: one son William Neil Liggett and his wife Caroline of Plattsburg; two daughters Dorthy Hack and husband Kenneth; Diane Dehn and her husband Terry both of Richmond, two sisters Peggy Parker and her husband Steve of Humansville, and Mary Katherine Parker of Grain Valley; nine grandchildren: James Dehn, Christopher Dehn, Samantha Dehn, Daniel Dehn, Samuel Sharp, Misty Moore, William Neil Liggett, Jr., Samanatha Reaves and Rachel Jarman; 13 great grandchildren and many foster children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, James, Tom, Larry and Neil Liggett and two sisters: Nellie Liggett and Marlene Taylor.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Jerry N. Liggett memorial fund.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Church of God in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery.
