The Hardin-Central Bulldogs had a strong showing at the Class 1, Sectional 3 meet held Saturday at Boonville. The Dawgs took third place for the afternoon with 81 points, while Wellington-Napoleon captured first with 130 points and Glasgow was second with 99.
It was a good afternoon as well for the Lady Bulldogs as they took ninth place with 33 points in the 24-team field.
As a result, several Bulldog and Lady Bulldog athletes will be heading to the Class 1 State meet Friday and Saturday in Jefferson City.
All four Bulldog relay teams advanced past sectionals. The 4 x 200 team of Hank Bowers, Wyatt Craven, Rhyler Estenbaum and Gage Marshall finished third with a time of 1 minute, 36.04 seconds. That same crew also took third place in the 4 x 400 with a time of 3:41.01.
The 4 x 100 squad of Estenbaum, Marshall, Marcus Pearon and Mitchell White took fourth with 48.43. Also finishing fourth and heading to state is the 4 x 800 team of Estenbaum, Marshall, Spencer Wheeler and Sean Utley who combined for a time of 9:12.92.
The Bulldogs had two individual champions. Craven took first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.37, and Estenbaum won the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.06. Craven also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.64.
