The Spartans captured one individual first-place finish and won one relay event to help them to a second-place team finish at Monday’s Nick Sloop Invitational in Lawson. The Spartans ended the day with 92 points, just 7 points behind the host Cardinals. Trenton placed third in the 10-team field with 76 points.
The 4 x 400 relay team of Seth Gant, Daymean Probst, Taylor Teegarden and Matt Tweedie turned in the winning time of 3 minutes, 41.8 seconds, which was 5 seconds ahead of runner-up Trenton. The Spartans’ 4 x 100 team of Tevin Robinson, Gant, Brock Stokes and Lendarrius Pritchett placed second with 46.47, which was just .44 out of the winning time. The Spartans picked up another second-place finish in the 4 x 800 as Tweedie, Probst, Teegarden and Dakota Ross combined to cross the line in 9:00.72.
Pritchett captured the lone individual first for Richmond with the winning leap of 40 feet, 11 inches in the triple jump, while Gant placed third with 37-10. Tweedie was the runner-up in the 800-meter run with 2:10.35, and Robinson finished second in the long jump with a distance of 19-4½, with Gant picking up another third-place showing with his leap of 19-4.
