Richmond’s first shutout of the season pushed the Spartan tennis team back to the break-even level overall and to 3-1 in MRVC East matches. The Spartans blanked the Trojans on their home court in Carrollton Tuesday afternoon 9-0.
Jesse Bulk won his No. 2 singles match by a shutout, but for the most part, all the contests were played fairly even.
“We struggled with our games a little bit, but came through in the end,” RHS Coach Julie Baker said. “Jesse played the cleanest game, although the rest of the game scores were closer than the final. We continue to struggle with consistency, but we are working toward that.”
Jeremy Chrisman battled into a tiebreaker before winning his No. 1 singles match with Bryan Phillips.
Chrisman took the tiebreaker 7-5 to record a 9-8 victory. After Bulk won his match 8-0 over Ethan Swyres at No. 2, Parker Johnson stopped Brock Detherow 8-4 at No. 3.
Chad Truby battled his way to a 9-7 victory at No. 4 over Kane Robinson, followed by a pair of 8-2 Richmond wins.
