Limited course time has proved to be not much of a problem for the Richmond Spartan golfers as they opened the 2013 season with four wins in five matches this week.
The Spartans traveled to Knob Noster Tuesday and swept a quad match featuring MRVC East opponents, and on Wednesday hosted their first home match and split a triangular.
The Spartans shot 185 on the Royal Oaks Golf Course Tuesday to edge the host Panthers by 2 shots. Carrollton carded a 240, while Higginsville ended the day with 256. Knob Noster’s Donald Vann was the medalist for the day with a 2-over par 38, while Richmond junior Zach Frederick was the runner-up with a 42.
Spartan coach Murray Dennis was pleased with the wins and was ready to see how his team would perform in a match.
“I thought Knob was going to give us a good look, and they did,” he said. “We didn’t play as well as we could overall, but for our first match out, we’ll take it.”
Reece Milligan shot a 44 for the Spartans, followed by Phillip Kincaid with 48, Davis Johnson with 51 and Kanon Franklin with 68.
Dakota Persinger had the low Carrollton round for the day with a 54, and John Dehaven’s 51 was the low Higginsville score.
