Melvin Thompson, 87, of Orrick, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City, MO.
Melvin was born March 26, 1926 in Scottsbluff, Neb. to Mark Otto and Hannah Edith Thompson. He married Anna Bell Cates of Van Buren, Ark. Sept. 16, 1950; she survives of the home.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Melvine R. and Gloria Jean Thompson of Orrick and Larry Pat Thompson of Orrick; one daughter, Barbara Kay Russell of Orrick; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Margaret McIntyre Of Independence, and Vivian and Lawrence Luthain of Kansas City, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Catie Hall, Danny Smallwood, Tony Smallwood, Mike Whorton, Jr., Jacob Stevenson, Anna Thompson, Samantha Thompson and Dylan Russell; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jean Whorton; one son-in-law, Larry Russell; and seven brothers and sisters.
Melvin worked at Ford Motor Company as an inspector and fork lift driver for 30 years before retiring in 1982. He was a United States Army Veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Richmond First Assembly of God. Melvin had lived in Kansas City and Orrick areas most of his life. He was also a member of the Richmond American Legion Post #237.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Richmond First Assembly of God.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly of God in Richmond. Visitation will be Monday, April 1, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
