You can tell it has been a long winter when even young school children applaud when they are told there probably won’t be any more snow days left. Hardin-Central preschool through sixth grade students, with a few eighth graders present as well, got that news from WDAF Fox 4 television meteorologist Joe Lauria Thursday during a special assembly in the school gym.Lauria spent a little over a half hour talking with the students about the different types of severe weather we have in this area, and then took some time to answer questions. He began the talk by asking the students what type of severe weather this area experiences and afterwards he discussed several of them and then talked about staying safe in each one of them.
Lauria talked about flooding and reminded the students to avoid the floodwaters because more people die from flooding than any other of the severe weather situations in this area.
“You might come up on some water and it appears to be shallow, but it doesn’t take much water to move a car downstream,” he said.
