If the weather is not cooperating – then just move inside. That’s what the Hardin-Central track team, along with other schools, did Thursday at the Wentworth Military Academy Indoor meet.
It was a successful afternoon for the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs with the Hardin-Central boys finishing as the runner-up in the 10-team field, while the Lady Dawgs placed fourth out of seven schools for the day.
The Bulldogs had two individual first-place finishes to go along with the winning time of 9 minutes, 45.97 seconds for the 3,200-meter relay team. Marcus Pearon had the winning time of 2:33.33 in the 880-yard run, while Wyatt Craven captured first in the 440 dash with 57.01. Craven edged teammate Hank Bowers in that race with Bowers breaking the tape in 58.52.
Bowers also had a third-place showing in the 60-yard hurdles with a time of 8.66. Craven placed third in the 220 dash with a time of 24.4, with Ryler Estenbaum grabbing sixth with 25.34.
Terry Barron had the top finish for Hardin-Central in the 60-yard dash with his sixth-place time of 7.13, with Craven placing 10th with 7.19.
The Dawgs had two more second-place finishes with Sean Utley running the 2-miles run in 12:06.78, which was just 5.78 seconds behind the winning time turned in by Windsor’s Keller Lewis. Matt Perriman had the fifth-place time of 12:32.45 for Hardin-Central. Clif Kugler was a runner-up in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches, with Mitchell White placing seventh with 5-2. Lane Coldiron ended up in third place in a tight shot put competition. Coldiron’s toss of 40-2½ was less than two feet off the winning distance. Cole Leakey had the sixth-place toss of 37-9.
