The Hardin-Central Bulldogs won seven individual events, plus two more relays on the way to winning their own invitational meet held Tuesday at Spartan Stadium in Richmond. The Lady Bulldogs had four first-place finishes as they grabbed third place in the girls’ competition.
Hank Bowers and Clif Kugler each captured a pair of first-place finishes as the Bulldogs piled up 232 points, while Blue Ridge Christian was a distant second with 78 points. Santa Fe place third in the 10-team field with 66 points, followed by Southwest with 54.5; Braymer with 53; Norborne with 47; Hale with 32; Richmond junior varsity with 30.5; Tina-Avalon with 26; and Hardin JV with 9.
Bowers won a pair of hurdle events. He ran the 110-meter hurdles in 17.2 seconds, and the 300-meters in 42.8. Teammates Josh Smith and Zak Finley placed third and fourth, respectively in the 110 with Smith crossing the line in 20.7 and Finley in 20.8.
Bowers also finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 7 inches.
Both of Kugler’s wins came in the field with a distance of 18-2 in the long jump and by clearing 5-8 in the high jump. Mitchell White placed fourth in the long jump for Hardin-Central with 16-6.
Wyatt Craven turned in the winning time of 54.1 in the 400 in addition to a pair of second-place finishes in two dashes. Craven finished behind Norborne’s Denys Tverdokklib in both events. Craven’s time of 11.8 in the 100 meters was just .2 seconds out of first place and he covered the 200 in 24.8, with Tverdokklib breaking the tape in 23.8.
