Richmond Shrine Club hosts a CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) chili cook-off Saturday at the Shrine Club, 400 Wollard Blvd.
Doors open for the inside event at 7 a.m. Cooking begins at 9. Chili must be cooked on site and no beans or other fillers are allowed, according to CASI rules. For additional rules, go online to www.chili.org/rules.html. The entry fee is $20. Chili must be completed and turned in to judges by noon. After that, the public can taste all the entries for a $3 fee.
The event also includes a homemade pie contest. Contestants bake pies at home and bring to the event. Deadline for pie entries is 11 a.m., and the fee is $15.
Proceeds of the event go toward Shrine Club charities.
