Shirley May Vermillion, 71, of Orrick, died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at her home.
Shirley was born March 22, 1941 in San Diego, Calif. to George W. and Edith M. (Funkhouser) Peterson. She married Floyd E. Vermillion of Kansas City, Mo. July 10, 1956; he survives of the home.
Additional survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Deana Vermillion of Garden City; three daughters and sons-in-law, Julie M. and Steve Vanderlinden of Raytown, Karen and Larry Runions of Wood Heights, and Deborah K. Guretin of Raytown; one brother, George W. Peterson of Raytown; 11 grandchildren, Russell Vanderlinden, Kelly Young, Mikaela Lorino, Amanda Harris, Lisa Peterson, Timothy Guertin, Markae Guertin, Amy Guertin, Seth Vermillion, Tallen Vermillion and Emily Vermillion; and 12 great-grandchildren, Louis, Sam, Maddalyn, Wyatt, Morgan, Dalton, Cheyanne, Jacob, Ava, Riley, Gabriel and Douglas.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents.
Shirley was a Pharmacy Tech for Jack Monroe Pharmacy in Excelsior Springs, for several years. She had lived in Raytown before moving to Orrick. She was a member of the Messenger Chapel in Richmond. Shirley enjoyed quilting, painting and was very craft oriented.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
Memorial survives will be held Sunday, March 17, at 1:30 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will be at a later date. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements. On-line condolences may be left on our website
