R-XVI school district patrons are invited to be part of the Board of Education forum 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 at Ray County Library Community Room. The event is sponsored by Richmond NEA and the Richmond News.
Seven candidates are vying for two open seats for three-year terms. Those candidates are (as listed on the April 2 ballot) Tom Williamson, Jeffrey “Tof” McWilliams, Billy Gaines, April Maulsby, Rosita J. Dial, Dr. John Scowley and Chris Minnick, current board president. One-term board member Joey Duncan is not seeking re-election.
The audience will have a big hand in the forum, according to Richmond NEA president Robbin Cole. After two-minute introductory statements, candidates will field questions submitted by the audience on provided note cards.
“Each candidate will have up to two minutes to answer each question, in turn as monitored by the moderator. All note cards will be collected immediately following introductory remarks. No individual candidates shall be singled out to answer specific questions,” Cole said.
