The Orrick Lady Bearcats were able to hold down a potent Wellington-Napoleon attack, but the state-ranked Lady Tigers were able to leave the Orrick gym with a 46-39 victory Friday night.

Even though his Lady Bearcats dropped to 9-12 overall and 3-2 in the I-70 Conference, coach Mitch Comstock was pleased with his team’s effort against the No. 3-ranked team in Class 1.

“I am very proud of our effort,” he said. “Wellington is a very good team, and the fact that we played them to what was mostly a 4-point game says a lot. We have got to shoot the ball better to win these big games.”

The Lady Tigers held an 8-6 lead after one frame and took a 24-20 advantage at the half. Wellington had its best offensive output in the third quarter with a 17-point effort to give the Lady Tigers a 41-30 cushion going into the final 8 minutes.

Katie Kropp led the Lady Tigers, now 21-2 overall and 5-1 in the league, with 12 points and 9 rebounds and 6 steals, while Kayla Thompson added 9 points. The Wellington bench combined to score 15 points for the Lady Tigers.
