The last time the Richmond Lady Spartans and Carrollton got together, the Lady Trojans dominated wire-to-wire and coasted to a 21-point MRVC East victory.
This time around, it was Richmond’s turn to return the favor as the Lady Spartans closed out the regular season Thursday night with a 47-30 win.
It was Richmond’s second win in three meetings with the Lady Trojans and gave the Lady Spartans a 9-16 overall record and a 4-6 showing in the conference while Carrollton winds up 4-18 overall and 3-7 in conference.
The Richmond defense harassed Carrollton from the opening tip, which set up the Lady Spartan offense for some easy looks at the basket.
“The girls really stepped up their defensive pressure,” Richmond Coach David Littrell said. “I was very proud of how well they played position defense. Our defensive effort fed our offense very well through out the contest. It was a great way to close out our home schedule for our seniors.”
Carrollton did not have any scorer reach double figures.
Caitlin Ehlert, who scored a game-high 18 points in the Jan. 28 Lady Trojan victory, was held to 9 points Thursday, while Hunter Summers, who had 17 points the last time, was limited to 5 points.
Erin Thoeni and Tori Lock also had 5 points apiece for Carrollton.
Eight Lady Spartans scored with Madison Cole leading the way with 10 points and Jenny Simpson chipped in 9.
