The Higginsville Lady Huskers took out some revenge on the visiting Richmond Lady Spartans Tuesday night. The only MRVC East setback by the defending champion Lady Huskers came at Richmond Jan. 17 when the Lady Spartans got a 3-pointer at the buzzer to earn a 42-39 victory.
Tuesday night’s game did not have the drama of that first meeting as Higginsville improved to 8-1 with a 67-32 win. The Lady Husker victory sets up a meeting tonight at Holden in a clash of the league co-leaders. Richmond drops to 8-16 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
Richmond Coach David Littrell said his Lady Spartans had good looks at the basket, but could not get them to go down as they shot just 23 percent from the field.
“We had some bright spots in the game, but it was one of those nights when the ball just didn’t fall through the basket,” he said. “Any run we made on offense, would be countered by a breakdown in our defensive assignments.”
Higginsville, now 17-7 overall, was led by Sam Davis who hit all 11 of her free throw attempts on the way to scoring a game-high 21 points. Emma Dyer added 18 points for the Lady Huskers.
