The Orrick Lady Bearcats recovered from a rough second quarter Tuesday night and held on for a 37-31 road win at Sweet Springs. Orrick, now 9-11 overall and 3-1 in the I-70 Conference held a 12-6 lead after the first 8 minutes.
However, the Lady Bearcats offense went cold in the second period and the only scoring came from a pair of free throws made on six attempts.
The Lady Greyhounds took advantage to tie the game at 14-all by the intermission.
Orrick was able to bounce back in the third period as both teams scored 9 points, and the lady Bearcats closed out the game with a 14-8 advantage in the final 8 minutes to secure the win.
“We came out flat, but lost all our focus in the second quarter,” Orrick Coach Mitch Comstock said. “I was proud that we regained our focus at half and got a big win. We also have to do a better job at the free throw line.”
Orrick ended the night hitting just 13 of 28 from the stripe. Sweet Springs also struggled at the line as the Greyhounds converted just 5 of 18 tries.
