o overtimes Thursday night at the CLAA Tournament at Tina-Avalon, the Hardin-Central Lady Bulldogs appeared to have run out of gas the next night as they lost the third-place game to Southwest.
The Lady Dawgs dropped a 42-41 semifinal decision to Norborne and were outscored 19-3 in the fourth quarter of Friday’s 44-32 loss to Southwest.
Hardin-Central, now 14-9, took a 29-25 lead into the final 8 minutes Friday night, but Macy Foster’s 3-point bucket was all the scoring the Lady Dawgs could manage in the final period. Meanwhile Sydnee Rounkles and Haylee Johnson keyed the Lady Bulldogs’ surge in the fourth quarter.
Rounkles hit a pair of field goals and four of five free throws, while Johnson knocked down a 3-pointer as she scored 6 of her game-high 15 points in the final 8 minutes. Rounkles ended the night with 12 points, while Ellie Shirley hit for 10 points for the Wildcats.
Hardin-Central held an 11-10 lead after the first quarter and a 21-19 advantage at the half. Olivia Ellis scored all 10 of her points in the first half for the Lady Dawgs with Alex Paul also scoring all 6 of her points in the first two periods. Maria Powell, Foster and Kasi Arbogast scored 5 points each, with Hannah Noelker adding a free throw to go along with her team-high 8 rebounds. She also grabbed 4 steals with 3 blocked shots on the defensive end.
