Third-seeded Hardin-Central had very little trouble with sixth-seeded Northwest of Mendon Monday night in the opening round of the CLAA Tournament at Tina-Avalon.
The Bulldogs hit half of their 62 shots and pulled down 40 rebounds in a 71-31 victory and will meet No. 2 seeded Southwest today at 5:45 p.m.
Clif Kugler did not miss a shot for the Dawgs as they improve to 15-6. Kugler was 7 for 7 from the field and 2 for 2 from the free throw line as he scored a game-high 16 points. In addition, he grabbed 8 rebounds with a pair of steals and 2 blocked shots. The Hardin-Central defense came up with 15 steals while holding the Eagles to 25 percent field goal shooting (10 for 39).
The Bulldogs grabbed a 25-12 lead after one period and by halftime held a 46-21 cushion. Hardin-Central outscored Northwestern 11-7 in the third quarter and closed out the game with a 13-3 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.
