Kaleb Heber and Brock Stokes captured third place for Richmond’s highest A pool finishes in Saturday’s Richmond Invitational wrestling tournament. Anthony Bulk was a runner-up for the Spartans in B pool competition.
Stokes split his four matches for the day at 160 pounds. After losing his first match by fall in 1:09 to Adrian’s Joe Collins, Stokes came back to take a 9-4 decision over Dylan Drennen of Fatima, but then dropped a tough 2-0 decision to Johnny Perz of St. Thomas Aquinas. Stokes, now 24-19, won his final match by injury default over Clay Dunlap of Hamilton-Penney.
Heber won by fall in 3:28 over Dayne Matthew of Mid Buchanan in his opening round of the 220-pound bracket. After drawing a bye, he lost by fall in 36 seconds to Ben Ewing of Aquinas who improved to 31-1 with the win. In the championship bracket, Heber lost by fall in 0:28 to Knob Noster’s Derek Morgan, who was 32-1, but bounced back in the third-place match to win by fall over Cody Bigler of Versailles in 3:06.
