The Richmond Spartans showed no ill effects from their disappointing loss in Saturday’s Hamilton Invitational championship game as they took to the home court Tuesday night against visiting Carrollton.
The Spartans improved to 3-1 in the MRVC East with a 54-39 win over the Trojans thanks to a solid defensive effort. Richmond came up with 5 steals to go along with 23 rebounds off the defensive glass.
“It was a good bounce back win after losing that tough game Saturday,” Richmond Coach Duane Bastob said. “It was a methodical win and we had to work hard on defense to really feel good about ourselves again. Our energy level was positive and it reflected in our play.”
It was Richmond’s second win over the Trojans this season and unlike their 48-35 win over their conference rival in the Lawson tournament a few weeks ago, the Spartans never trailed Tuesday. Brandon Eschenbach led Carrollton, now 1-3 in league and 6-9 overall, with 22 points, but the Trojans could not find any more scoring. Meanwhile, the Spartans hit 44 percent from the field and had just 3 turnovers.
Reid Summers matched Eschenbach for game-scoring honors, while Lendarrius Pritchett added 19 more to go along with his 6 assists.
