The Richmond Lady Spartans followed a tough night with one of their best offensive showings to advance to the consolation game of the 19th Annual Lawson Invitational. Richmond, now 4-9, will meet St. Mary’s Friday at 5 p.m. for fifth place after splitting their first two games.

After losing to Gallatin in last year’s third-place game at Lawson, the Lady Spartans opened the tournament with a 47-37 loss to the Lady Bulldogs Monday night. However, Richmond shook that off with a 51-38 victory over MRVC East foe Carrollton Wednesday night in the consolation semifinals.

Emma Long led the offense for Richmond as the Lady Spartan senior hit four 3-point buckets on the way to scoring a game-high 17 points. Miya O’Dell added 14 points for Richmond. Six of her points came in the opening quarter to help Richmond take a 10-7 lead into the second period. O’Dell scored the last two baskets in the first quarter to give the Lady Spartans the lead they would hold on to for the rest of the night.

The Lady Trojans, now 2-10, stayed with Richmond through the first 4 minutes of the second quarter. Carrollton cut the Lady Spartan lead to 3 points with 3:46 remaining in the half before Long hit the first of her two 3-pointers in the half to help Richmond close out the quarter on a 10-7 run.
