RHS girls fall short in consolation final

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

The Richmond Lady Spartans and Gallatin Lady Bulldogs met for the second time this season Friday night with the consolation trophy of the Hamilton Invitational on the line.

The last time these two teams met, Gallatin opened the Lawson Invitational with a 10-point win over Richmond. Although the Lady Spartans also lost this meeting, 50-42, it was a much better effort for Richmond.

Gallatin hit 17 of 20 free throws to hold off the Lady Spartans. While the Lady Bulldogs were hitting their attempts from the stripe, Richmond couldn’t find the range as the Lady Spartans converted just 10 of 21 free throws.

Kailey Solomon led Gallatin with 18 points, while Kaitly Hefley added 12 points. Richmond was paced by Emma Long, who had 11 points, with Jenny Simpson adding 9.

Madison Cole and Sarah Davis each chipped in 6 points, followed by Miya O’Dell with 5, Andrea Woods and Leslyn Cole with 2 apiece, and Savannah Hamilton with a free throw.

Gallatin got two quick baskets – one a 3-pointer – to grab the early lead, but the Lady Spartans held them Bulldogs to just 5 more points over the rest of the opening quarter as Gallatin took a 10-8 lead into the second frame.
