The Orrick Board of Education voted to extend the contract of Superintendent Aerin O’Dell during its Jan. 21 monthly meeting in the school library. The board, with two members absent (Tim Twyman and Linda Buchanan), approved by a 4-0-1 vote extending O’Dell’s contract for two years beginning with the 2013-14 school year. Board member Jason Lafferty abstained.
Board president Art Endsley said the board was pleased with O’Dell’s performance since she was named to the post in July, 2012.
“She has done a wonderful job,” he said. “You should be commended.”
During her report to the board, O’Dell said the district’s revenues and expenditures are in line with what she had expected them to be, and was optimistic about how they will line up at the end of the year. She added that she was still concerned about the Title 1 and Special Education funding due to the extension of the fiscal cliff in Washington, D.C. O’Dell added she would watch last Monday’s State of the State address by Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon with interest to see what his plans for funding education will be.
O’Dell also told the board she is continuing to get information on security systems for the school. She has received one quote, but added that security companies have been very busy lately, and she expects more bids to come in shortly.
