To the Editor:
Richmond Masonic Lodge #57 would like to say thank you to all of those in the community who have supported us during the past year.
2012 was a great year for the Richmond Masonic Lodge; we were very active in helping local charities and will continue to do so in 2013. Through our fish fry events and biscuit and gravy breakfasts, the Lodge has raised money for a variety of local charities.
We have supported the Ray County Library’s Summer Reading Program, the Richmond Fire Departments “Fire Up” Program and the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation’s “Christmas Store”.
Our charities also include providing clothing, shoes and coats for students in need at Dear and Sunrise Elementary schools. We have supported the Backpack program and the Christmas Food Basket program at the schools.
In cooperation with Alvin’s Heating and Cooling, the lodge replaced the heating and A/C unit for the House of Hope (a safe haven for battered woman and children), and this fall we provided funds for the House of Hope to purchase children’s clothing.
We have also donated to the GAP Assistance program through the Ray County Health Department. All of these charitable donations were made possible by the members of this community supporting our lodge events. We cannot say thank you enough.
This January, Richmond Lodge #57 is beginning a new program in cooperation with Richmond and Hardin elementary schools. The program is called “Bikes for Books.”
Children attending these schools can enter into a drawing for a chance to win a bicycle. A boy’s bicycle and girl’s bicycle (including helmets) will be awarded to one boy and one girl in each grade, kindergarten thru fifth grade, based on the number of books they read for the semester. The bicycles are donated by local businesses and individual sponsors and are awarded each semester during an assembly at school.
These bikes will be on display at the schools throughout the semester with the sponsor’s information.
Richmond Lodge #57 will continue to hold fish fry events and biscuit and gravy breakfasts throughout the year. The lodge would like to extend its appreciation to the members of this community and all of those who have supported us and continue to support us. We greatly appreciate it. For more information on the Richmond Masonic Lodge #57, we are located at 315 Clark Street or contact us at 816-510-7990.
