Larry Lee Strickler, 83, of Rayville, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Richmond.
Larry was born Dec. 28, 1929 in the Camden Bottoms, Lafayette, County, to Everett Lawrence and Inez Bernice (Wright) Strickler. He married Cornelia Elaine Smithey of Camden, April 22, 1953; she preceded him in death Sept. 16, 2010.
Larry graduated from the Richmond High School. Larry had worked as a crane operator for Haggard Heavy Hauling and farmed for many years in Lafayette and Ray County. Larry was a United States Navy Veteran. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Camden. Larry and his wife Elaine were active members of their community serving in many different capacities.
Survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Larry Steven and Susan Strickler of Richmond and Leslie Gayle Strickler and Liz Smart of St Joseph; one daughter, Delann Elaine Lewis of Holden; three grandchildren, Caleb Lewis and his wife, Meghan, Justin Strickler and Craig Strickler; one great-granddaughter, Carissa Elaine Lewis; one brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Doris Strickler of Lexington, and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Bonnie Trader of Richmond and Nancy and Gary Burgess of Camden.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Camden United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 1:30 p.m., at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Burial will be at Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond. Military honors to be provided by the Ray County Veterans.
