North Platte outscored Orrick 22-6 in the second quarter to help lift the Lady Panthers to a 64-34 win Wednesday night. It was the fourth straight loss for the Lady Bearcats as they fall to 4-8 for the season and eliminates them from the Bill Burns Classic in Lathrop.
Orrick opened the tournament Monday night with a 53-36 loss to the host school.
Wednesday night, the Lady Bearcats got most of their offensive production from the free throw line. Orrick shot just 20 percent from the field, but hit 16 of 31 attempts from the free throw line. Madison Winters used the line to help her score a game-high 15 points as she converted 11 of 19 free throws – including 7 of 9 in the fourth quarter.
The junior Lady Bearcat also grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds – 10 of those on the offensive glass and tied Makayla Easley for the team-high in steals with 4 each.
Orrick trailed 15-11 after one quarter, but North Platte broke loose in the second quarter to open up some breathing room. The Panthers added on to their 37-17 halftime lead with a 16-6 scoring edge in the third quarter. Nine of Orrick’s 11 fourth-quarter points came from the free throw line.
