The Orrick Lady Bearcats took advantage of their time at the free throw line Friday night to help them to a 54-34 win over Hardin-Central, and put a damper on the Courtwarming festivities for the Lady Bulldogs.
Orrick, which had handed Hardin-Central a 30-point loss at Wellington the week before, converted 24 of 30 free throws with Madison Winters knocking down 17 of her 20 attempts at the stripe. Orrick Coach Mitch Comstock was pleased with his team’s concentration.
“I am very proud of how hard the girls played,” Comstock said. “After beating them by 30 the week before, it would have been easy to go into the game with big heads, but we came out to play and took over the game.”
Orrick, now 7-10, jumped to a 15-5 lead after the opening 8 minutes, but the Lady Bulldogs battled back in the second quarter to cut the visitors’ lead to 25-24 by halftime.
