Despite falling behind 19-5 after the first quarter, the Orrick Bearcats battled their way back, but came up short in the consolation semifinal round of the Bill Burns Classic at Lathrop Wednesday night. Orrick, now 0-11, spent the rest of the evening trying to erase their early deficit, but dropped a 53-50 decision to Maysville and was eliminated from the tournament.
Orrick Coach Jared McMahon said his team just didn’t get out of the gate.
“It was one of the worst first halves we played this year,” he said. “Too many turnovers and forced shots. Maysville’s point guard, Peterson, is a talented young man that hurt us on the drive. We played much better in the second half and it was the best fourth quarter we have played all year.”
