The Orrick Bearcats were no match for top-seeded Wellington-Napoleon in the opening round of the I-70 Conference Tournament at Lone Jack. The Bearcats, the No. 8 seed, dropped to 0-6 after a 62-20 loss to the Tigers.
The Tigers bounced back after a 5-point season-opening loss to Odessa last week by shooting 40 percent from the field, while the defense came up with 23 steals.
Christian Bryant led the way for Wellington-Napoleon with 26 points by hitting 11 of 16 from the field, to go along with 7 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 blocked shots.
The Tiger senior got things started by scoring 14 points in the opening period as Wellington jumped out to a 23-7 lead. The Tigers opened up a 43-9 lead by halftime and took a 59-15 cushion into the final 8 minutes.
